Phase 10 is a sequence-based card game. It is basically a different version of a rummy-style card game, where card management and patience are more important than luck. This game is different from normal card games as the player has to overcome 10 specific challenges or 'phases' to win. Each phase requires matching a different set or run of cards, making the game both strategic and competitive.
The biggest feature of the game is its continuity. The game consists of 10 phases, and the player must complete phase 1 before proceeding to phase 2. If a player fails to complete the assigned phase in a particular round, they must attempt to complete the same phase again in the next round. Because of this rule, a player can fall behind or quickly move ahead of others at any point in the game.
The digital version of this game is very popular on online platforms like Funox, as it allows players to play directly in the browser without any complicated setup and makes gameplay easier by automatically tracking points and phases.
There are 108 cards in this game. The deck contains numbers from 1 to 12 in four different colors (red, blue, green, yellow). Besides, there are 8 'Wild' cards and 4 'Skip' cards as special cards. Wild cards act as substitutes for any number or color, and Skip cards force an opponent to miss their turn.
At the start of each turn, the player must collect one card from the deck or discard pile and discard one card at the end of the turn. When a player collects the required cards for the current phase, they can lay them down on the table.
When a player has exhausted all the cards in their hand, the round ends. Points are calculated based on cards held by others:
· Cards numbered 1 to 9: 5 points each.
· Cards number 10 to 12: 10 points each.
· Skip Card: 15 points.
· Wild Card: 25 points. Whoever has the lowest total points at the end of the game is considered the winner.
